Tetris-inspired bookshelves

Tetris shelves

Tetris lovers of the world listen up, next time you’re redectorating your flat, skip Ikea (though we love our Expedit here in the HQ) and go straight for the Tetris-inspired bookshelves from Brave Space. The Tetris unit is lightweight and modular, allowing owners to mount the blocks on the wall, leave them free-floating for life-size gameplay, or stack the blocks on top of one another. There are also colored backshapes available to match your interior color choices.

Drawings of popular cartoon characters and their skeletal systems

Pikachu's skeletal system

Going around for awhile but we’re still amazed by them! Artist Michael Paulus has put together a collection of drawings, displaying popular animated cartoon characters from pop culture next to what might be their skeletal systems. The drawings are actual gallery pieces, two-part with a hinged translucent overlay, which when lifted reveal a line drawing of the character’s skeleton underneath. Paulas has begun creating approximations using Photoshop in order to save space for the online gallery. I’ll never look at Charlie Brown the same way.

David Lynch’s Lumiere short on Google Video

David Lynch Lumiere short at Google Video

A little over 10 years ago, 41 international directors were asked to create a short film using an original Cinematographe created by the Lumière Borthers in 1895, as part of the Lumière et compagnie project. Part of this group was the man we know and love, David Lynch, who by many accounts created the most inspiring short of all included. There were 3 rules involved with the making of the short, 1) The film must be under 52 seconds (possibly due to a technical limitation), 2) no synched sound was permitted, and 3) the directors were allowed no more than 3 takes. David Lynch’s short was titled, “Premonitions Following an Evil Deed” and featured 52 seconds of beautifully framed and filmed images, which even today feels fresh and exciting. I agree with the original poster, imagine what could have been created by Lynch if given more time and more stock in this format?

Online indie music, arts and crafts co-op store

The Blue House - indie music, arts and crafts shop

Shaw-Han Liem, also known as I Am Robot And Proud, has created a fully-featured co-op shopping portal for indie musicians, artists and craft-makers, named The Blue House. A one-stop shop for some of the best fringe music and crafts (1″ buttons, hand-screened posters and artwork), fans of the independent arts are able to purchase items from sellers around the world, through one easy interface, with all money going directly to the artists (via PayPal). A digital-distribution section, where customers will be able to directly purchase whole albums and singles via MP3 (and possibly OGG or other formats) is currently in the works, hopefully being completed by years end. Pixelated New York City as social network

Pixelized New York City

City Pixel have created a breath-taking pixelated replica of New York City and merged into a giant internet city-as-social network. Registration is free and users are able to explore the city, shop, rent apartments, use public transportation and even make in-world “calls” to other pixelcitizens on the public telephones available throughout the city. Take 1 part Second-Life, 1 part MySpace, and lots of pixels later, you have a New York-style playground for you to explore and meet new people. City Pixel is currently in production on their second city, rumored to be London, which is leading their user-polls for what should come next.

boygirlparty!

Artist, musician and all-around crafty lady Susie Ghahremani, creates lovely nature-inspired crafts and artwork which she graciously hand-makes and offers for sale through her website. Highly recommended are the ink-squirting octopus to-do pad (Get Things Done folks!), the finch stationary and the starry owl canvas tote bag to carry them all around with.

No more ugly coffee stains from your mugs

Stamp coffee mugs

Being that I’m addicted to coffee, I’ve had a lot of experience with annoying coffee ring stains left on my coffee table. While still annoying, designers Valeria Miglioli & Barnaby Barford have created this lovely set of coffee mugs with floral ring-mark patterns casted into the bottom to at least help one accept that coffee stains can also be a work of art. Oh, the patterns also complement each other so you can create endless patterns of coffee stained beauty!

Stop animation video of classic games using food and toys

Stop action animated classic video games

The geniuses at PES have created a beautifully done stop animation video of classic video games (including sound!) performed using traditional items, such as food, birthday candles, coins, and watch faces (among other things). PES is a highly acclaimed multimedia / animation firm who have also worked on commercials for Nike (highly recommended viewing), MoveOn.org, and Diesel (also highly recommended viewing) while creating their quirky brand of animated shorts. Oh, and they offer some of their shorts pre-formatted for PSP, way to go PES!

Woven Flesh announces new collection – Hunter & Prey

Woven Flesh new collection

Danish musician, artist and graphic design wonder-kid Anders Ahoerj recently announced the first collection to the t-shirt line of his fashion label Woven Flesh. The collection, entitled “Hunter & Prey”, features cages, knives and the many different creatures living in a far away forest done in the sickly sweet cartoon style we’ve come to love and expect from the creative force behind Venom Yum.
