Veggie around the world – Golden Era in San Francisco

Golden Era vegetarian, San Francisco

Ok, after some of those pizza bombs from a few posts down, it’s time again to get back on track. First, I love this place. I haven’t been there in over a year, but, I assume it’s still just as amazing, at least from what I hear from those luckily enough to have visited lately. Golden Era is a must for any veggie-friendly visitor to San Francisco, bringing an animal-friendly view to traditional Vietnamese dining, from rice dishes to clay pot to amazing soups and appetizers. Voted some of the best vegetarian meals in the Bay Area by, well, everyone really. All meals are prepared without meat, poultry, fish, egg, and MSG.

Pizza of the World Cup Championship

Pizza world cup!

Pizza or football. It’s a tough choice. Well, no not really, it’s pizza. So for those who aren’t aware, the past few weeks has seen Germany hosting the 2006 football World Cup championships (soccer for those stateside). In anticipation for the games, and since pretty much every other product in Germany is football-branded right now, German pizza franchise “Call a Pizza” has prepared a 32-item menu of localized pizzas from every country involved in this years championship. Those of the veggie / vegan persuasion need not apply, but, I for one couldn’t resist looking at the variety, from the traditional ham, pineapple and cheese of Costa Rica, to Hollandaise sauce on the Saudi Arabian pizza.

Veggie around the world – Vegetasia in Vienna, Austria

Vegetasia logo

Those who don’t know us personally, wouldn’t know that we’re green-living, hippie vegans. So now you know. Naturally, it makes sense that we love food, so we’re starting this weekly series on vegetarian and vegan restaurants around the world. We’ll start off our weekly post series here in our own backyard of Vienna, Austria. Watch weekly for us to hype up a vegetarian / vegan restaurant somewhere in the world, maybe on your street, who knows. If you have a veg restaurant, deli or cafe in your town that you want us to feature, then let us know [Email address: veg #AT# bunchofnerds.com - replace #AT# with @ ]. But remember, none of this half-assed, 2 vegetarian options on the menu deals. These have to be full-on, 100% vegetarian (with at least *some* vegan options) menus!

This week’s restaurant is possibly Vienna’s premier veg spot. Vegetasia’s menu is naturally 100% vegetarian and almost every dish can be prepared vegan if it’s not already. Featuring a huge variety of mock meats (‘chicken’, ‘pork’, ‘beef’, and ‘seafood’ made from soy, wheat gluten and seitan), a small selection of dim-sum and all the veggies and tofu you could ask for, it’s a spot that has to be on any traveling veg’s to-visit list. Oh, did we mention there’s also an all you can eat lunch buffet 7 days a week? Featuring over 10 dishes, plus soups, sides and desserts for one super low price, all you’ll need to do is loosen that belt and dig in.
