Gallery of poster and promotional art from Stanley Kubrick films

Art from films by Kubrick

Keeping on with my internet community fetish, we come to the extremely packed Kubrick Multimedia Film Guide, a large site serving as a major source of information for the brilliant works of director and producer Stanley Kubrick. Contained within this site is a large (and growing) gallery of posters and promotional art from past Kubrick films dating back to the 1950s on through to Eyes Wide Shut. Poster and promotional pieces from films such as 2001, Lolita, Clockwork Orange, The Shining and Paths of Glory are on display, with more being added as the collection grows, which hopefully it does. The posters from 2001 were just pure brilliance, this coming from a NASA and design nerd.

Simpsons movie footage from San Diego Comic Con (Update 3)

Simpsons Movie sneek peaks

At the San Diego Comic Con this past week, the makers of the new Simpsons movie showed off two videos of rough animation story boards to the much-appreciative fans. Both scenes feature heavily on Homer, who has of course taken the crown for most popular Simpson away from Bart (finally). This is all very basic and early work, but it looks great and I can’t wait for this movie to come out, followed by a Futurama movie (in my dreams)! There are rumours rushing around actually that there will be new characters introduced in the movie, with Albert Brooks reportedly voicing an all-new character as well as reprising a few of his past characters. Feel free to leave a comment telling us what you think of the clips!

Sit back and enjoy the videos after the jump…

[Update 1: At the request of FOX these videos have been removed from YouTube and just about any other video sharing network. Copies are being put up and being taken down just about as quickly. I'll update the links as soon as new videos can be found.]

[Update 2: .....Aaaaaaaaaand we're back. These videos will be up for probably the next 10-15 minutes, so enjoy!]

Update 3: Ok we all knew YouTube would suck after Google legitimized it. Both videos were put up, then taken down and now has been put up again by the fan who originally captured the video. Right on!

The largest drive-in movie theater in the world

Drive-In theater

Drive-in theaters were the staples of Americana in mid-20th century US culture. From the snack booth, to the pigtailed girls, to the convertible cars, it was a unique and exciting experience to visit a drive-in. But as technology and social norms changed, the drive-in theater began to take a backseat to home videos, dvds, digital mega-ultra-super plexes and the iPod Video. Well, word on the grapevine is that the drive-in is making a come back, partially driven by baby-boomer nostalgia and partly by hip kids wanting to show off their cars while watching a new movie. This brings me to the Ford-Wyoming drive-in, located in Dearborn, Michigan, which is the last operating drive-in movie theater left in the Detroit metropolitan area, and just happens to be the largest drive-in theater in the world. Dating back to 1951, the drive-in has 9 screens showing the latest Hollywood blockbusters and can fit 3000 cars on it’s lot. The Ford-Wyoming is open year round, so those of you in the Detroit area have no excuse to support an icon of the American landscape. (Naturally you should be visiting in the hybrid automobile of your choice).
