How-To video site explosion

Teamwork!

Did I miss something? I knew the how-to was one of the most overused stories to get a blogger more linkbacks and rankings, but where did all these how-to video sites popup from? I’m not complaining really cause I love these sites and love learning new and often times useless tricks and DIY. Instructables and Video Jug are both extremely useful video sharing sites with a focus on how-tos and distribution of knowledge, one of the many great uses of this here internet thingy we’re filling up pipes with. Both are social internet services, allowing users to sign up, download, rate and create video how-tos and share them among their similarly DIY-addicted friends. Quick hint fellas, over at Video Jub there’s a how-to on the front page for giving yourself a testicular exam!

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.

This is getting a little more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is decorative, has much more flair, and some great functions such as ‘Mixview’ that let you swiftly see connected cds, songs, or other users associated to what you are listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and an additional set of “friends” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by the same performers, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” can also be excellent fun, letting you locate others with shared tastes and getting friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist developed depending on an amalgamation of what all your friends are playing, which can also be enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will probably be relieved to learn you are able to prevent the public from seeing your individual listening routines in case you so choose.
