Video documentary on the life of skater Natas Kaupas

Natas Kaupas deck

When I was a kid, Natas Kaupas was one of the kings of street skating and absolutely one of my skating heroes. In fact, he was one of the first skaters to take to the street, mixing freestyle moves with vert skating tricks, riding the concrete as if riding waves and pulling off amazing moves on ordinary street objects while the skating world were too busy worrying about how much air they could get off a half-pipe. Recently, a short documentary was made on the life of Natas Kaupus (in a series on street skating), which, naturally has made it’s way to YouTube (but probably not for long).

Watch an excellent four-part documentary on Natas Kaupas after the jump..

Video documentary on William S. Burroughs II from 1984

William Burroughs at home

William S. Burroughs was a troubled, troubled man, as everyone already knows. This documentary, filmed in 1984, follows Burroughs through his daily life, taking a visit back to his hometown as well as meeting Burroughs’ brother Mortimer, and speaking with many of his friends, family and colleagues, discussing their takes on Burroughs’ life and works. Some great interviews and scenes are contained within, from a short interview with William S. Burroughs III (JR), Burroughs’ troubled and estranged son, some great shots of Ginsberg talking with Burroughs about Jack Kerouc (calling him a great writer who wrote some book called “on the route” and became well known), as well as an interesting tour of Burroughs’ New York City “Bunker”, a window-less apartment retreat that actually looked like a nuclear bunker. A choice quote from Burroughs himself: “My whole life has been resistance to the ugly spirit”.

Grab some popcorn, get comfortable and watch the documentary after the jump..

2001 meets Office Space in YouTube mashup

Milton!

2001 meets Office Space in this odd, but somewhat enjoyable video mashup courtesy of the GooTube. A shame they didn’t use some of Milton’s dialogue, because, well, he’s Milton and there’s no one better, but, still, it’s good enough. After watching, proceed straight to the “Which Office Space character am I?” quiz over at Quizilla.

Watch the mashup after the jump..

Music video: “These are the days” by Lift to Experience

Lift to Experience

Lift to Experience were a primal force in independent rock in the late 90s. Hailing from Texas and damn proud of it, Lift to Experience were shining bright with the release of their debut (concept) album “The Texas Jerusalem Crossroads” on England’s seminal Bella Union Records (run by ex-Cocteau Twin Simon Raymonde). The album is a twisting tale of guitars, prophesizing the end of the world where Texas is the holy land (huh???). A pretty fitting tale from a man whose father was a pentecostal preacher who believed he could will things into being by just simply having faith. Unfortunately the band ceased to be shortly after the release of the single for “These are the days”, with no hopes of a reunion according to Bella Union. Singer/front man Josh Pearson is currently touring in support of his upcoming solo album, also on Bella Union.

What exactly is George W. Bush’s job? Jon Stewart asks the hard questions

Jon Stewart and George W. Bush BFF

On a recent Daily Show, Jon Stewart asks some really hard questions, such as, what exactly is the president’s job? Curiously, it doesn’t seem that anyone really knows what it is, other than a few vague comments and lots of fund-raising, but, we’re told it’s not our business to really even care. But is that enough for Jon Stewart, noooo, of course not, it’s never enough.

Watch a clip from a recent Daily Show and wonder along with Jon after the jump..

Everyday items being nuked in a microwave

Microwaves

Doesn’t get any more self-explanatory than that. Over the decades, kids of all ages wondered what would happen to their toys if they somehow went 2 minutes on high in their GE microwave, some have even given it a try. For those of us that were always stopped by our over-cautious parents before pressing the start button, there’s MicrowaveCam.com. Via MicrowaveCam, a few young at hearts take on the task of nuking pretty much everything you can think of in America’s favorite kitchen appliance, the microwave. From CDs to Easter candy, these people have nuked it all and recorded it for us to see and enjoy, via their custom-built microwave featuring a damn strong camera built-in.

Kenneth Copeland and Kenneth Hagin work crowd into a fit of holy laughter

Jesus

I’m just, amazed. Shocked. Baffled. Kenneth Copeland and Kenneth Hagin are names that some know quite well. As firebrand Pentecostal ministers, they both were a little, unstable to say the least. As you can see in this video during a pastor’s conference, they both work the crowd into a fit of “holy laughter”, dancing, thrashing, falling around, mooing and speaking in tongues. It’s actually pretty uncomfortable to watch, considering half of the crowd are obviously only mooing because they don’t want to seem the odd one out. I don’t see how the Baby Jesus could like this one bit.

Watch a bunch of people rolling around the floor and acting weird after the jump..

Finnish Star Trek parody that confuses the hell out of me

Star Wreck CGI Still

First appearing online in 1997, Star Wreck is well-known to any true fan of Star Trek. Originally a fan-made parody from a few Finnish school-kids, Star Wreck has has grown into a major effort by fans all around the world. The new Star Wreck episode, “In the Pirkinning”, is finally complete after years of hard work by many fans. “In the Pirkinning” is a full-length parody film, featuring quite impressive special effects and I have to admit, acting and translations that confuses the hell out of me.
