Look, I'm not going to argue that these new bulbs are bad or that people shouldn't buy them. I'm just saying that it should be the *consumers* decision, not the government. I can't believe I'm arguing against a lightbulb ban. Is this what things are coming to? People don't even understand how free markets work?

Nice move California. It should be pointed out that this bill is banning the sale of conventional bulbs in Cali, not requiring freedom loving Americans to purchase only CFL bulbs. Odd how many true freedoms this country is losing weekly, yet even hint that an American's ability to PURCHASE out of date and inefficient technology at the local dollar store might be hindered and you've got people ready to run on Washington with pitchforks.

Conventional bulbs should have ceased being manufactured 50 or 60 years ago. It's 2007, time to use technology that is indicative of that. Also, by the time this bill is in place in 2012 (if even passed), the price of CFL bulbs will have fallen to dollar store levels and the need for conventional bulbs will be all but gone. Chances are, most people won't even notice, except of course, the large corporations who notice they are selling less light bulbs or pumping out less electricity.

It's a win-win situation, aged technology which is bad for the environment, this country, the world and above all, a person's wallet (CFL bulbs last years longer and consume a minor fraction of the electricity a conventional bulb uses, meaning you save your money) will be out, cleaner, longer lasting and cheaper technology will be in.
