Speed Racer’s car looks nice, Jack as Racer X, hmmm

At a press conference a few weeks ago in Germany (where Susan Sarandon and Matthew Fox recently were spotted enjoying a Modest Mouse concert), the crew of the live-action film adaptation to Speed Racer gave some insight into the wonderful world being created in the film, as well as the physical Mach 5, which will be used throughout the film. The car looks excellent, though I’d prefer a bit less pimp on the wheels. Some of the acting choices, hmmm, I have to think about some of those. I like the thought of Matthew Fox (Jack from Lost!) as Racer X, but, Ricci as Trixie? I guess it’s worth a shot. The film is currently being shot in Berlin and is set for a May 2008 release.

Open that greasy diner of your dreams

  June 11th, 2007 by Nerds

Dinermite!

I’ve always wanted to open a diner. Greasy spoon, all you can drink coffee at 2am served by waitresses chewing gum who you know just doesn’t give a damn about your problems in the middle of the night. Thankfully, there is always some enterprising company making my (potential) life just that much easier. Atlanta, Georgia’s Dinermite has taken pre-fab architecture to new heights, by offer a series of modular, pre-stocked Diner setups for those of you who’ve always wished about changing your name to Frank or Bill and sticking up a ton of chrome on your street corner. Including everything from the checkerboard flooring to the kitchen sink, Dinermites’ modular diner systems provide almost everything a diner-aficionado needs to get their own greasy spoon up and running. Minus the cute aprons, jukebox and attitude of course.

Buy the Rednex on eBay, would Cotton Eye Joe approve?

  June 5th, 2007 by Nerds

Rednex

So you just can’t get enough of Swedish country-techno ‘artists’ REDNEX and have a few million dollars to blow? Then your prayers have been answered! Rednex AB, the holding company which owns all of the trademarks, recordings, contracts and rights to the Swedish techno legends is on the chopping block over at eBay, with a starting bid of $1,500,000 US. Small change my friends, small change. The company is debt-free and carries an average $4,000 - $5,000 a year in administrative costs. Naturally all royalties on previous recordings also have to be maintained. Currently the company is run by original lead singer Mary Joe (Annika Ljungberg) with power of attorney running until 2008.

In case you have a few million and are seriously considering this, watch the video for “Cotten Eye Joe” after the jump, you’ll change your mind…
