Charlie Brown t-shirt a must-have

Charlie Brown t-shirt

Halloween is coming and what better way to spend it than pretending you’re a balding 10 year old with passive aggressive friends who don’t really care for you all that much? I can’t think of anything better. When I first saw this shirt, I thought to myself, why have I never seen a Charlie Brown t-shirt before? It just seems so right. But now that’s taken care of, I can guarantee you, buy this shirt, play a little baseball, hang out in the pumpkin patch and all your troubles will melt away.

Musical wind-up toys by Maywa Denki

Wind up toys

I’ve always loved wind-up toys and being the spaceage bachelor that I am (ok, not really), I’ve always wanted to start a small collection of all the strange wind-up toys I’ve come across. From politician’s heads, to food, to space aliens and cartoons, the variety is crazy. Now I’ve found the Knockman Family, from designer Maywa Denki. Each character makes their own absurd movements, making some sort of ‘musical’ noise while capturing dada-esque design perfectly. Only a matter of time before some electronica artist in Japan (or Canada) is using this group to create live noise.

Free drawing from ExplodingDog via (snail)mail

Exploding Dog

Artist Sam Brown, also known as ExplodingDog, is quite well-known for his beautifully simple drawings chock full of personality and charm. Drawing lots of robots, dogs, hearts and humans, Brown’s artwork is used all over the internet and just about every discussion forum on the web has someone using his works in their avatars. Recently, Brown announced a very cool offer. He will draw a title, for free, for anyone mailing him a self addressed stamped envelope (don’t even think of emailing him), containing a note with the your title. The title has to be mailed in before September 30th (so you have 6 days!) and is just an experiment, as Brown says. It’s also recommended you send an envelope large enough to hold a sheet of paper, so he doesn’t have to fold it and mash it up to fit in a standard envelope.

First four pages of the Transformers script and lots of behind the scenes photos

Transformers the movie

Oh Transformers, how I worry for your legacy. With the new Transformers movie currently in production looking to MTV-ify one of my favorite childhood memories it’s interesting to see some of the many modernizations to some of my favorite characters from the television show and movie. It seems we’re not alone in our hunt for Transformers info, with the super-sleuths at Film Wad coming on strong with what appears to be leaked copies of the first 4 pages of the Transformers script, giving us a little peek into what we can expect from the beginning of the film, due out July 4, 2007. Naturally a spoiler warning needs to be given here, so, there you go.

Love Pixel – Crazy pixel world artwork

LOVE PIXEL

Taiwanese something or other (a design firm I guess) Love Pixel does some amazing things with their pixel art. One of the current pieces is a giant pixel metropolis which I guess is supposed to be Taipei? Very beautiful and very fun time waster to work out your scrolling finger.

Simpsons movie footage from San Diego Comic Con (Update 3)

Simpsons Movie sneek peaks

At the San Diego Comic Con this past week, the makers of the new Simpsons movie showed off two videos of rough animation story boards to the much-appreciative fans. Both scenes feature heavily on Homer, who has of course taken the crown for most popular Simpson away from Bart (finally). This is all very basic and early work, but it looks great and I can’t wait for this movie to come out, followed by a Futurama movie (in my dreams)! There are rumours rushing around actually that there will be new characters introduced in the movie, with Albert Brooks reportedly voicing an all-new character as well as reprising a few of his past characters. Feel free to leave a comment telling us what you think of the clips!

Sit back and enjoy the videos after the jump…

[Update 1: At the request of FOX these videos have been removed from YouTube and just about any other video sharing network. Copies are being put up and being taken down just about as quickly. I'll update the links as soon as new videos can be found.]

[Update 2: .....Aaaaaaaaaand we're back. These videos will be up for probably the next 10-15 minutes, so enjoy!]

Update 3: Ok we all knew YouTube would suck after Google legitimized it. Both videos were put up, then taken down and now has been put up again by the fan who originally captured the video. Right on!

Huge online archive of full-length cartoons and videos

Huge archive of full length cartoons and videos

Surfing around, I came upon this huge archive of cartoons, various television shows, and internet videos, stored on an extremely easy to navigate interface. The page is part of UmmYeah, a personal social news aggregator, where users are free to sign-up and create their own personal feed in minutes. The video page currently hosts 2,802 videos in 88 different channels, all from online video sharing services (YouTube mostly), with old-school cartoon favorites such as Transformers, Super Mario Brothers, Pinky and the Brain, and Ren & Stimpy, to almost every 80s music video ever shown on MTV.

Drawings of popular cartoon characters and their skeletal systems

Pikachu's skeletal system

Going around for awhile but we’re still amazed by them! Artist Michael Paulus has put together a collection of drawings, displaying popular animated cartoon characters from pop culture next to what might be their skeletal systems. The drawings are actual gallery pieces, two-part with a hinged translucent overlay, which when lifted reveal a line drawing of the character’s skeleton underneath. Paulas has begun creating approximations using Photoshop in order to save space for the online gallery. I’ll never look at Charlie Brown the same way.
