Saint B MP3 player, holy tunes man

Saint B MP3 player

Want a flash-based MP3 player that not only let’s you jam your christian rock, but also show the world what religion you identify with? Then the Saint B MP3 player will be perfect for you. Only a prototype for now, this is most certainly a product I see being mass produced and selling quite well. A flash-memory based MP3 player in a chrome-plated steel frame, shaped like a cross, the Saint B also features an OLED display covered by a semi-transparent piece of plastic. Charging and login are done via USB and the overall size is 92x64x11mm. Star of David coming soon?

Miniature snow machine let’s you make your own snow at home

Snow at Home

Though I wouldn’t recommend recreating a snow-capped mountain on top of your couch, this miniature snow machine will let you turn your backyard into a mini alp as long as the temperature is around 0 c to -3 c (27 – 30 degrees f). Specifically for personal, hotel or event usage, this mini snow machine lets you create nice, dry flakes of snow using cool water, perfect for your kid’s birthday party or to add a little spice to your party.

Moller M400X Skycar prototype up for sale on eBay

Moller M400X Skycar

Why we’re all not in flying cars yet, I’ll never know, but, I know one thing, if you’re filthy stinking rich you can be. The Moller M400X Skycar prototype, which has demonstrated it’s hovering abilities many times at the Moller facilities is now up for auction via eBay. The Skycar is of course a prototype and can’t really ‘fly’ yet, but, hey, if you’re rich enough to buy it, you should be rich enough to continue developing this amazing piece of aviation history. Current bidding is around the $2 million mark with estimates at $4 million for a final sale and yes, you do have to complete a background check as this thing is most certainly considered a weapon.

Video of the MIT Assist Sketch Understanding System

Smartboard

The future of office interaction is coming my friends and I for one am welcoming my whiteboard masters with open arms. The brainy folks at MIT have developed an amazing system (Assist Sketch Understanding System) which recognizes drawings on a smart board allowing users to create dynamic sketches with varying degrees of interactivity and intelligence. One of the examples shown involves the presenter sketching a small car on an inclined plane. After sketching this on the whiteboard, he presses the run button and the drawing is instantly animated and even reacts accordingly to the presenter NOT having drawn axles for the wheels! I can see this being used in many industries, especially by game designers and animators in order to mock up level design or character prototypes! I have no information on whether this technology will be available anytime soon or ever at all, but we can all hope to have one day have one of these boards in our meeting rooms.

Command: Sit line of chairs, a must for any nerdy office

Command Sit chairs

Chalk another one up to the Japanese having the coolest nerdy gadgets on Earth at their fingertips. The “Command Sit” line of chairs are designed by US gone Japanese designer Ross McBride (Normal), who has been living in working as an independent designer in Tokyo since 1991. His command sit line of chairs come in computer beige or black and are available exclusively through Duende, the Japanese furniture and interior design products label. No price is given, which basically means half of us couldn’t afford them anyways.

Finally! Hidden rooms are an architectural trend

Hidden Rooms

With the growing paranoia and the rising wealth of the upper middle-class, hidden rooms are now starting to become commonplace in more and more homes around the world and all we can say is Finally! Ever since we were kids watching Scooby Doo and Webster we’ve wanted a nice little hidden game room where we could jump around on a trampoline and make as much noise as we wanted without anyone really knowing where to find us. Though, with the recent incident in Austria, I’ll admit that as with anything extremely cool and nerdy, there will be someone to come a long and ruin it soon and you can guarantee Fox News will be there to hype it.

Candela-style lights plugged into batteries make the perfect mood lighting

LED candle replacements

The Candela light is a great little invention for home decor and lighting fanatics. Providing a brilliant warm light source comparable to the intensity of 1.5 candles, the Candela uses long-life warm LED light sources, running for 8 hours on a rechargeable ni-cd battery. Though a bit pricey, designer Richard Lawson has come up with another brilliant innovation, the 9vo(l)tive LED candle. By combining the idea of the Candela light with a simple battery-driven LED mod, they’ve created the ultimate low-cost candle-light replacement for nerds. Though, we can’t stress enough how important it would be to use rechargeable 9 volts for these little projects. Interested? Contact the designer at richi(at)forpeople.co.uk.

Do It Yourself RFID kit

DIY RFID kit

Though this kit is mainly for artists (a shame), I can think up some extremely fun and mischievious uses for this DIY RFID kit. For those who don’t know, RFID stands for Radio Frequency Identification and is an automatic identification method relying on storing and remotely retrieving data from special RFID tags or transponders wirelessly. This kit allows you to program and tag 10 RFID tags (included) to display a certain video when the tag is registered on the special RFID video player (also included), allowing artists to create personalized video installations for different viewers. The software allows one to program the tags via Mac OS X and includes sample videos and tutorials for the low price of 349 EUR. I can imagine a group of enterprising hackers could easily hack this apart to create some mighty interesting projects, which I’d in no way encourage.

USB memory sticks, made from real sticks

The Wooden USB sticks

At first the inner environmentalist inside of me was screaming out, but then I read how the sticks for these cute little USB memory “sticks” were picked up from the forest floor, not taken from the actual trees and my inner nerd took over. The sticks come packed in a nice little white gift box and are available in 256 MB, 512 MB and 1 GB variations. Perfect for the architect who wants to have a little contrasting imagery in their clean, hip office.
