Though the ancient Colossus of Rhodes – one of the Seven Wonders of the World – only stood for 56 years, word has it that after more than 22 centuries, it will soon stand again - this time made of modern light-weight materials.
The original Colossus, which took twelve years to erect, fell after an earthquake hit the Aegean region. Because none of the pieces survived, noone really knows what the original looked like, but what is known is that the statue did not straddle the port entrance.
Just as the original was constructed from parts of war machinery used by potential invaders of Rhodes, the new structure shall be built from modern-day melted-down weaponry.
When’s it gonna be finished? Hasn’t been announced yet. But I’ll definitely be booking my ticket early!
