Weird Al’s video for “White and Nerdy”
Weird Al is back and he’s back hard, rolling with an amazing parody of Chamillionaire’s “Rollin’ Dirty” and sporting a great new look. Our favorite vegan takes back the streets.

Happy Talk Like a Pirate Day!!
Tis’ a great day for mankind, Talk Like a Pirate Day be t’ best holiday this side o’ Cinco de Mayo. Yarghhhhh!

Online documentary tracing the roots of DC punk and hardcore
We couldn’t decide what was cooler, the technology behind Yellow Arrow or “Capitol Punk”, the street-level walking tour of DC’s hardcore and punk roots, featuring interviews with Ian Mackaye, Ian Svenonius and many more.

Music video: “Papercuts” by Broadcast
Our favorite British wall of noise and beauty grace Bunch of Nerds once again with their video from 2000’s “Papercuts”. A video featured on Warp Records infamous collection of Warp videos.

Baby bang experiment has a small chance of destroying Earth
Sure the whole destruction of the planet thing is pure sensationalism in light of the good that this experiment, if successful, can do. Most certainly a step forward for mankind and now the post which gets Bunch of Nerds the creepiest search engine queries of all time. Shiver.

The history of famous photographs
An amazingly free online gallery, putting words to the emotion we feel when viewing some of these brilliant photos. Hundreds upon hundreds of photos from over 150 years years of photography, with an in-depth history behind each and every one. Productivity-killer alert, do not view while at the office, unless you don’t want to really do any work.

Bunch of Nerds weekly round up - Stereolab, Soviet space shuttles and more

Missed something this past week on Bunch of nerds? Consider subscribing to our newsfeed and keep up-to-date with all the goings on around here (you can even subscribe via email, look under the ads to your right). It’s been a slow week, that’s because we’re working full time on a new project which many of you will hopefully love (you will, trust us). Give us a month and keep your eyes glued here.

Zach Braff maybe not leaving Scrubs?
Well, is he or isn’t he? Geez, offer the man some money already and keep this great show on the air for another 2 seasons at least. Sorry Zach, you made an ok movie with lots of indie-cred, but, we just can’t support you starring opposite the Julia Roberts of the world.

Original Twin Peaks promo from ABC
Some dedicated fan transferred this rarely seen Twin Peak promo from one of his mom’s old video tapes and naturally stuck it up on YouTube for us fans to enjoy. We approve.

Photos and story behind the Soviet space shuttle Buran
During the Cold War space race the Soviets developed a successful space shuttle program, creating the shuttle Buran, a sleek and shinier version of the U.S. Challenger. Though the Buran never carried a cosmonaut, it was still an impressive feat that Mother Russia will never be able to repeat as long as every government official from the bottom up has their hands in every public works budget in the country.

Bush to hold talks with Kazakhstani president over Borat / Ali G
Seriously, who voted for this guy? Why would the president of U.S of A even waste 1 minute of his time (and taxpayer’s money) talking about Kazakhstan’s hurt feelings over Ali G’s representation of one of their citizens? Beats me too.

Music video for “Ping Pong” from Stereolab
Though the ‘groop’ is currently taking things slow, we’re still in love with them! Stereolab currently has some limited edition vinyl and have done a few small shows after being dropped by the scuttled Elektra Records and are still one of the best bands around.

Crocodile Hunter dies after Stingray barb pierces chest
Crikey. While scuba diving, Steve Irwin dies when a Stingray he boxed in fires a barb through his chest. Though we weren’t avid fans of Mr. Irwin, all our best goes out to his family and friends.

Blacklight tattoo gallery
Are light reactive tattoos the next big thing in the ink-scene? Not sure, but man some of these tattoos look amazing.

Video of Kiefer Sutherland taking out a Christmas tree
Being huge fans of 24, we’re always up for some fun Kiefer gossip and even though this video makes the rounds every other month, we still can’t get enough of Kiefer diving head first into a giant Christmas tree.

Build your own USB controlled dancefloor
Super nerd or the coolest nerd on your block? A .NET hacker took on the task of building his own dancefloor in his living room with the kicker being a USB controlled lighting system built-in. Not only did it come out looking amazing, but he also blogged the progress and provided us with code snippets so we too could nerd it up on the dancefloor.

Light applications for portable media
Traveling is already enough of a pain in the ass without having to worry about your laptop being stolen or the wireless LAN you’re trying to leach being locked up. Smart travelers have been on the go lightly for years now, carrying their web browser, chat, email and VOIP client on their portable thumb drives, never leaving a trace behind for snooping tourists at an internet cafe to stumble-upon.

Free foreign language courses from the Foreign Service Institute
Free foreign language courses from the government-sponsored Foreign Services Institute. Diplomats and government employees stationed in far-away lands take these courses and now so can you. Lifehacker-approved!

Music video: “Just Briefly” by Daedelus
Music-hacker extraordinaire Daedelus graces us with the video from 2005’s “Just Briefly”.

Segways banned on the streets and sidewalks of Britain
Proving yet again that government officials just don’t quite ‘get it’, officials in Britain ban the use of Segways on public streets and sidewalks. Guess Bush himself has to endorse a Segway (instead of falling off of one) before Tony Blair’s government will pay any attention to it.

Game on you crazy diamond!
Our gaming brothers-in-arms are taking over our gaming coverage with a tan and orange theme and a boulder-sharp wit. Daily gaming industry news, reviews and gossip that might be old, might be new, might be borrowed, might be blue. Playthrough is only one in a short-line of new blogs joining our ‘network’, so keep those eyes peeled.

College students stumble onto the set of Lost, make themselves at home
A couple of college kids on holiday in Hawaii stumble-upon an un-secured set for television’s Lost, so they do what any dedicated Lost fan would, they make themselves right at home. Not only did they uncover what may be a secret for season 3, but they also lived to tell about it AND post a photo album to Flickr.

Bunch of Nerds under construction
It’s been a slow week, mainly because we got the sick idea in our head to attempt not only updating all of our Wordpress plugins, but also update to the latest WP version AND clean up the layout of BoN. Naturally things went wrong and hey, here we are, 95% into changing the layout of this here monster.

High-speed photos of small items being destroyed
Porn for photo nerds, we found a nifty little gallery of ordinary items, like eggs and cigarettes being destroyed by golf clubs while being photographed using high-resolution, high-speed gear.

American McGee says Wii is the only truly next-gen console
American keeps reminding us that he’s a punk in the gaming industries circle-pit of life and damn if we don’t agree.

Giant archive of television theme songs and ringtones
We’re a sucker for classy ringtones and what’s more classier than classic television theme songs? Nothing, that’s what. We’re still looking for that Arrested Development ringtone, which I still haven’t gotten my hands on yet!

Grid Wars creator asked nicely to cease and desist
Sure it was a fine piece of homebrew gaming goodness and we love Geometry Wars over here, but, alas, it began hitting a little to close to home according to Bizarre Creations, the owners of the Geometry Wars IP. No legal blows were throw and relations remain good on both sides. Maybe we’ll see Geometry Wars on Windows Vista?? Hmmm hmmmm???
