London man remodels apartment to mimic that of the Starship Voyager

trekapt.jpg

Yes! I love a Star Trek nerd with commitment. And it takes a hell of a lot of commitment to turn your studio apartment into a living replica of the interior of a starship. Completely functional, the gentleman’s home, right outside of London, has been completely handcrafted with everyday parts from the local Home Depot. The design features working LED lighting systems, is air conditioned and even has a replica transporter control system which triggers sound systems and lights via fader input. The downside other than retina damage was bankruptcy, which the owner recently emerged from.

Own a miniature village in the south of France for €257,525

Small village in the south of France for sale

If you’ve ever wanted to retire in the south of France (and rule your own town), here’s your chance and it’s an amazing one. Built into the ruins of an ancient Roman settlement on the border of the Drome Provencale, this ancient village is up for sale and the price is stunningly amazing. It’s small, only 5 buildings in total, with a total of 5,000 m2 land but “only” 150m2 of living space, it’s a complete miniature village in the south of France, offering a unique level of privacy and charm. Each of the 5 buildings have their own nicknames: “La Cantinette”, Le Pavillon “Nid d’Amour”, “Le Rocher”, “La Grotte” and “La Cuisine d’ete”. Anyone have a spare €257,525 ($327,00) they can loan me?

Beautiful rotary home design

Rotory Home by Luigi Colani

A triumph of space-saving architectural design, the Rotor House by Luigi Colani is a low-footprint home with a 6 square meter cylinder containing a bedroom, kitchen and bathroom. The cylinder rotates bringing whichever room you want into the main living room. There is a separate bathroom and everything within the house is controlled by remote. Space-age bachelor pad ahoy!

Finally! Hidden rooms are an architectural trend

Hidden Rooms

With the growing paranoia and the rising wealth of the upper middle-class, hidden rooms are now starting to become commonplace in more and more homes around the world and all we can say is Finally! Ever since we were kids watching Scooby Doo and Webster we’ve wanted a nice little hidden game room where we could jump around on a trampoline and make as much noise as we wanted without anyone really knowing where to find us. Though, with the recent incident in Austria, I’ll admit that as with anything extremely cool and nerdy, there will be someone to come a long and ruin it soon and you can guarantee Fox News will be there to hype it.

Tetris-inspired bookshelves

Tetris shelves

Tetris lovers of the world listen up, next time you’re redectorating your flat, skip Ikea (though we love our Expedit here in the HQ) and go straight for the Tetris-inspired bookshelves from Brave Space. The Tetris unit is lightweight and modular, allowing owners to mount the blocks on the wall, leave them free-floating for life-size gameplay, or stack the blocks on top of one another. There are also colored backshapes available to match your interior color choices.
