Apple and others being sued by company for not using its software

Pirates! All of ye!

Hmm, this is out there. MRT, a California-based development company and creators of the X1 SeCure Recording Control technology, have launched a series of far-reaching lawsuits targeting major media corporations such as Apple, Microsoft, RealNetworks and Adobe. The lawsuit stats basically that these companies are liable for copyright piracy and violating the DMCA by avoiding the usage of their copy-protection technology in their many and various products. Uh huh.

“We’ve given these four companies 10 days to talk to us and work out a solution, or we will go into federal court and file action and seek an injunction to remove the infringing products from the marketplace,” CEO Hank Risan said in a phone interview Friday. According to the MRT, the companies in question are responsible for 98 percent of the market’s media players, which are in turn used by CNN, National Public Radio, Clear Channel, MySpace, Yahoo, YouTube and others.

A burrito is not a sandwich, according to judge

Burrito

According to a Massachusetts judge, a burrito is officially not a sandwich. Whew, I’m glad that’s been cleared up and the world can sleep a little easier at night. The case was brought by rivaling restaurant chains, when one chain who specialized in sandwiches and other bread-based food products, tried to use a lease agreement which stated no competing sandwich companies could move into the same mall. The problem, this was a Mexican restaurant, not a sandwich factory. The case went before the courts, where, on the testimony of many food and cultural experts, the judge heard that no reputable chef or culinary historian would ever label a burrito as a sandwich.

Grid Wars, Geometry Wars clone

Grid Wars creator asked to remove Geometry Wars clone

Grid Wars, R.I.P

The creator of the excellent Geometry Wars clone, Grid Wars, has been asked by Geometry Wars creator Bizarre Creations to remove all links for downloading Grid Wars from the creator’s site (whew, say that 3 times quickly). Although I admit, the clone DID hit a little too close to Bizarre’s home, it is a bit sad that a freeware tribute to an excellent game which isn’t even being sold commercially or sold on the same system has been shot down without an official version to replace it. Best wishes to the developer and here’s to hoping he comes out with some new shooters to replace Grid Wars, or at least get a job offer from Bizarre to help with the next version of Geometry Wars.

Sorry folks… I’ve had to remove the link to the download.

Email from BizarreCreations:
“We’re beginning to feel the effects of the Geometry Wars clones on our sales via Microsoft now and are beginning a process to begin to more robustly protect our copyright and intellectual property. Therefore, I’d like to ask you in an amicable fashion to stop infringing our IP and pull the game ‘Grid Wars’ from the internet for download. I hope you understand and are able to do this without us having to take further steps.”
