Once again, my mind is blown. As most travelers know, in Italy, two things you can always find are pizza joints and ice cream shops. I’ve even read these are two of Italy’s most famous “cults”, a stereotype I’m starting to believe in more and more, especially after seeing the Konopizza. An Italian company has taken the countries two loves and combined them, creating a cone shaped dough ‘pocket’, adhering to the old artisan tradition and creating the Konopizza Oven, a special rotary oven than bakes the Konopizza within 3 minutes, giving the eater a hot, crispy pizza, in a cone, that they can take with them on the go, without making *too* much of a mess. Unfortunately, Konopizza and their patented oven are only available to franchises, but, here’s to hoping a Konopizza opens up nearby soon.

Several weeks ago, crowdsourcing social web applications networker vikings from Cambrian House launched a pretty impressive guerilla promotional campaign, to deliver 1000 hot pizzas to the California GooglePlex. Unannounced and as a show of thanks to Google, naturally, of course. What they thought would have been the hardest part, was actually the easiest, which was getting past security and into the Google parking lot, where for almost 2 hours the vikings hung out and had pizza with quite a few happy and hungry Google employees. What the vikings didn’t count on, were the Google Chefs (chefs.google.com?). Seems the chefs were a bit upset that the Google workers were so busy eating pizza, that noone was paying any attention to their world-class gourmet meals, which Google provides free of charge to their employees. The chefs get their revenge, though rather anti-climactically….

Pizza or football. It’s a tough choice. Well, no not really, it’s pizza. So for those who aren’t aware, the past few weeks has seen Germany hosting the 2006 football World Cup championships (soccer for those stateside). In anticipation for the games, and since pretty much every other product in Germany is football-branded right now, German pizza franchise “Call a Pizza” has prepared a 32-item menu of localized pizzas from every country involved in this years championship. Those of the veggie / vegan persuasion need not apply, but, I for one couldn’t resist looking at the variety, from the traditional ham, pineapple and cheese of Costa Rica, to Hollandaise sauce on the Saudi Arabian pizza.
