Windows Vista pricing at Amazon.com

Windows Vista pricing revealed

Amazon has listed pricing on the various flavors for Microsoft’s next Apple OS X ripoff, Windows Vista with not much fanfare or surprises. Pricing for Windows Vista Home edition comes in at $199.00 USD, with the Vista Ultimate edition clocking in at $399.00 and various upgrades from Windows XP ranging from $99.00 – $259.00. To be honest, I don’t know why anyone would bother with Windows Vista now that Intel Apples are on the market (apple user alert!). I guess old habits die hard?

Save money and a little of the environment with CFL light-bulbs

Compact Fluorescent Bulbs

A quick and easy way to save a little money by lowering your electric bill and help the environment by reducing the amount of CO2 emissions you’re responsible for is by replacing your normal incandescent bulbs with low-wattage compact fluorescents. Replacing four 60-watt incandescent bulbs with 11-13 watt (60-watt light equivalent) soft-white CFLs can reduce your electricity consumption by 1,500-1,800 kilowatt hours over the life of the bulbs and eliminate up to 2,500 pounds of atmospheric CO2 emissions you would have normally produced using the incandescents. Not only that, but CFLs last on average, 10 times longer than a normal incandescent bulb. Right now, Energy Federation Incorporated is trying to encourage adoption of CFL bulbs by offering those in the U.S. a 4-pack of 60-watt-equivilent CFLs at the amazingly low-price of $11.99 including shipping. Sure, the costs are a little higher up-front, but, over the life of the bulbs you’ll notice a higher return on investment and you’ll be doing a small deed towards helping the environment survive another year, or two (at least!). For readers in other countries, EFLs are certainly available at your local grocery or hardware store or through Amazon, among many other outlets.

Tetris-inspired bookshelves

Tetris shelves

Tetris lovers of the world listen up, next time you’re redectorating your flat, skip Ikea (though we love our Expedit here in the HQ) and go straight for the Tetris-inspired bookshelves from Brave Space. The Tetris unit is lightweight and modular, allowing owners to mount the blocks on the wall, leave them free-floating for life-size gameplay, or stack the blocks on top of one another. There are also colored backshapes available to match your interior color choices.

Vintage science fiction book super sale on eBay

Science fiction sale on eBay

As you’ve probably come to realize, we love sci-fi here at Bunch of Nerds HQ. Well, fancy my finding out that eBay book store, Murder-a-day, has revealed that they’ve come across a very large collection (50 boxes!) of good-condition vintage science fiction novels, and will be posting many vintage sci-fi novels at extremely bargain prices. I’m already eye-ing some vintage Asimov for around 2 bucks!

Online indie music, arts and crafts co-op store

The Blue House - indie music, arts and crafts shop

Shaw-Han Liem, also known as I Am Robot And Proud, has created a fully-featured co-op shopping portal for indie musicians, artists and craft-makers, named The Blue House. A one-stop shop for some of the best fringe music and crafts (1″ buttons, hand-screened posters and artwork), fans of the independent arts are able to purchase items from sellers around the world, through one easy interface, with all money going directly to the artists (via PayPal). A digital-distribution section, where customers will be able to directly purchase whole albums and singles via MP3 (and possibly OGG or other formats) is currently in the works, hopefully being completed by years end. boygirlparty merchandise on sale

boygirlparty!

Artist, musician and all-around crafty lady Susie Ghahremani, creates lovely nature-inspired crafts and artwork which she graciously hand-makes and offers for sale through her website. Highly recommended are the ink-squirting octopus to-do pad (Get Things Done folks!), the finch stationary and the starry owl canvas tote bag to carry them all around with.
