Stuck with really nothing else to do with a Sony PSP other than hacking it, enterprising youngsters are putting just about anything they can think of on their Playstation Portable systems. Including operating systems! There are several projects on-going at the moment trying to port older OSs onto the beautiful handheld from Sony, including the lovely Mac OS. In this video found on Google, an enterprising young man demos Mac OS 7.5 running (slowly) on his PSP, including an exciting fatal exception and a stunning cold reboot. Exciting things are coming for the PSP, I can feel it, only I don’t mean actually from Sony, cause we all know they haven’t licensed a game worth playing on this thing yet.

An 11-year-old boy in North Carolina was in for a little shock after her purchased the latest “N-B-A video game” from Wal-Mart, only to find the disc contained a pornographic film, rather than the game he assumed he was buying. This was reported to be for the Sony PSP and the game was sealed and wrapped, but I’m finding this to be a little suspect (“oh gosh dad, that porn was in the packaging when I bought this game! Honest!”), without at least some more details. Wal-Mart are said to have replaced the game and are working together with the manufacturer to figure out what could have happened. Naturally, the boy’s father has already contacted his attorney, but is stating he only wants his son to get the right game before they leave on a trip next week. Ahhh North Carolina, how I miss you!

When Sony launched the Playstation 2, they commisioned David Lynch to create two commercials for their Third Place campaign to be shown across Europe, in theaters and on television in some markets. I’m not quite sure if these were ever broadcast in the US or Canada, I certainly never remember seeing them on television. The commercials were shot in 2 days in 2000, with Lynch using the back of an envelope to check his list of shots and only taking a maximum of 2 takes per shot. Lynch worked with long-time collaborators Scott Dillups as camera operator, DOP, post production and John Neff to craft the sound design.

Watch both commercials after the jump…

The geniuses at PES have created a beautifully done stop animation video of classic video games (including sound!) performed using traditional items, such as food, birthday candles, coins, and watch faces (among other things). PES is a highly acclaimed multimedia / animation firm who have also worked on commercials for Nike (highly recommended viewing), MoveOn.org, and Diesel (also highly recommended viewing) while creating their quirky brand of animated shorts. Oh, and they offer some of their shorts pre-formatted for PSP, way to go PES!
