Wow, nicely caught on film! Amazing clouds formed over Moscow and scared the bujezzus out of folks. I suppose you see why. According to a Russian weather forecaster, “this is purely an optical effect” caused by several fronts, arctic air and sun from the west.

Valuca is a collector of all things amazing it seems, building a gallery site full of the most beautiful photos I’ve recently seen featuring lenticular clouds, wave clouds and other un-identified strange weather and cloud formations. The lenticular cloud is often confused as UFOs, due to their circular pattern, and usually form along mountain ranges. One amazing thing is that these cloud formations do not generally move, no matter how strong the wind may be.

The Cloud Appreciation Society might be on to something. A small group of cloud watchers, keeping their attention skyward, photographing and documenting the various cloud types and taking advantage of the soothing effects of laying in the grass watching the clouds roll by. You too can take part in the society, either by submitting photos to the gallery or maybe even supporting them by purchasing cloud-loving gear, like shirts or the society’s first book, “The Cloudspotter’s Guide” on Penguin Press. Down with blue-sky thinking, that’s what I say.

Mike is a professional tornado and storm chased from Nebraska, home to some of the most breathtaking weather disturbances in the country. Originally starting out as an amateur chaser, Mike documented a stunning tornado on his first trip, which undoubtedly caused quite a bit distress. But the seed was planted and after 8 years, many storms and several movies, he’s posted hundreds of stunning weather images from his many chases and quite a few amazing photos of his pets playing in the rain (always good to see an animal lover who chases tornados).

Yikes, a driver going down a highway was in for a bit of a shock (har har, get it?) one stormy afternoon, when suddenly, poof, their car became one hulking mass of lightning rod. Unfortunately, the video ends shortly after the blast, but, it doesn’t appear to have caused major damage, at least to the car, I would imagine a few years were taken off the driver’s life.
